Syntaxin's History

Syntaxin benefits from over 15 years of research in the field of bacterial toxin engineering, and holds dominant patents and know how in the design, manufacture and use of novel targeted secretion inhibitors (TSI). These biotherapeutic proteins inhibit secretion from a specific target cell for a prolonged period after a single dose, so are convenient for treatment of chronic disease. Founded in late 2005 through spin-out of intellectual property and scientists from the UK, Health Protection Agency (HPA), Syntaxin’s technology is based on expertise in engineered botulinum toxins.

The Company completed a £6m Series A financing with Abingworth in November 2005 and a £16m Series B financing led by SROne and Life Science Partners in October 2007, with Abingworth, Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation and Quest for Growth co-investing.

Syntaxin is based in corporate laboratories in Abingdon UK with 46 employees, with proven capability in research, process development, preclinical evaluation, manufacture and clinical study of its proprietary cell secretion inhibitors. Preclinical, drug supply and clinical trial capabilities are extensively outsourced by the experienced management team.
