Patient Focus
At Syntaxin, we believe that our technology provides the opportunity to design medicines that will help patients with a broad range of diseases where secretion plays a role.

Our technology is based on the natural botulinum toxins, which are increasingly used to treat human diseases. Patients find such therapy tolerable and efficacious.
However, therapeutic opportunities for the natural toxins are limited by a narrow therapeutic window between the desirable and undesirable effects. Systemic exposure to these natural toxins can prove to be lethal. Syntaxin’s TSI unique action as targeted cell secretion inhibitors provides a new opportunity for creating medicines with a long duration of action for application in a range of chronic conditions with a broad therapeutic window between efficacy and undesirable side effects.
Syntaxin focuses its programmes in therapeutic areas where there is a high unmet need. As an example, Syntaxin is developing products for the treatment of Acromegaly, which is a rare condition most commonly caused by an adenoma of the anterior pituitary gland. Clinical features of Acromegaly include tissue enlargement (such as protruding jaw and enlarged hands and feet) and is associated with high morbidity and reduced life span if inadequately treated. For Acromegaly patients, today’s drugs are associated with high non responder rates and poor disease control. Patients are looking for alternatives with better efficacy-safety ratios and the possibility to avoid surgery or radiotherapy.
Syntaxin’s TSI platform provides the means to deliver these attributes in our new medicines.
